Retraction and Withdrawal Policy

Jurnal Ilmiah Mappadising (JIM) maintains the integrity of the scholarly record by addressing significant errors and publication ethics concerns through manuscript withdrawal, corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions, as appropriate.

Manuscript Withdrawal

Authors who wish to withdraw a manuscript before publication must contact the editorial office through the Journal Contact page or the manuscript's discussion section in the online submission system. The request must identify the manuscript, provide a clear reason for withdrawal, and confirm that all authors agree to the request.

The editorial office will assess the request and communicate its confirmation to the corresponding author. Authors should obtain written confirmation of withdrawal before submitting the manuscript to another journal. Withdrawal does not prevent the journal from pursuing credible concerns about research or publication misconduct.

Retraction of Published Articles

Retraction may be necessary when reliable evidence demonstrates that a published article's findings are substantially unreliable or that serious ethical violations compromise the integrity of the publication. Grounds may include:

  • Major errors that invalidate the principal findings or conclusions;
  • Data fabrication or falsification;
  • Substantial plagiarism;
  • Duplicate or redundant publication without appropriate disclosure or justification; or
  • Unethical research, including serious violations of applicable requirements for ethical approval or informed consent.

The editor will assess the evidence, seek clarification from the authors, and, where appropriate, consult the relevant institution or authority. Authors will be given an opportunity to respond. A retraction may proceed without the authors' agreement when the available evidence warrants it. An authorship dispute alone will not normally justify retraction if there is no reason to doubt the reliability or ethical conduct of the research.

Retraction Notices and Preservation of the Record

A retraction notice will be publicly accessible and clearly identify the affected article, the reason for retraction, and who is issuing the notice. The notice will be linked to the article, and the article will be clearly marked as retracted.

The original article will normally remain accessible to preserve the scholarly record. Retraction notices will distinguish between honest error and misconduct where the evidence supports that distinction. Removal of article content will be considered only in exceptional circumstances, such as applicable legal requirements or serious privacy or safety concerns, with an explanatory notice retained wherever possible.

Corrections

A correction may be issued when an error affects part of an article but does not invalidate its overall findings or conclusions. The correction notice will describe the changes and be linked to the original article. Substantive changes to published content will not be made silently.

Expressions of Concern

An expression of concern may be issued when credible, serious concerns require readers' attention but the available evidence is inconclusive or an investigation remains unresolved. The notice will explain the concerns without presenting unconfirmed allegations as established facts.

When sufficient information becomes available, the journal will reassess the matter and publish an appropriate follow-up notice, correction, or retraction, or explain that the concerns have been resolved.

Reporting Concerns

Authors, readers, and other parties may report concerns through the Journal Contact page. Reports should identify the article or manuscript and provide specific supporting information. All reports will be assessed fairly, with appropriate confidentiality and an opportunity for the parties concerned to respond.
