PublicationEthics

Jurnal Ilmiah Mappadising (JIM) is committed to maintaining integrity, transparency, and ethical standards throughout the scholarly publishing process. Authors, reviewers, editors, and the publisher share responsibility for safeguarding the reliability of the scholarly record.

Responsibilities of Authors

  • Submit original research that has not been published or submitted simultaneously to another journal;
  • Avoid plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, and misleading manipulation of data or images;
  • Describe research methods accurately and report findings honestly, including relevant limitations;
  • Acknowledge and cite all sources appropriately;
  • Ensure that authorship reflects substantive scholarly contributions and that all authors approve the final manuscript and its submission;
  • Acknowledge contributors who do not meet the criteria for authorship;
  • Disclose funding sources and relevant financial or non-financial conflicts of interest;
  • Report applicable ethical approval or formal exemption and informed consent procedures accurately;
  • Protect participants' privacy and confidentiality and obtain appropriate consent for publishing identifiable patient information or images;
  • Disclose relevant use of generative AI tools and remain responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the manuscript. AI tools must not be listed as authors; and
  • Inform the editor promptly of significant errors and cooperate with requests for clarification, corrections, or investigations.

Responsibilities of Reviewers

  • Accept review assignments only when they have appropriate expertise and can complete the review within the agreed time;
  • Maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts and review materials;
  • Provide objective, respectful, constructive, and evidence-based evaluations;
  • Disclose relevant conflicts of interest and decline assignments when impartiality may be compromised;
  • Avoid using unpublished information for personal benefit;
  • Avoid requesting citations that do not contribute to the manuscript's scholarly quality; and
  • Inform the editor of suspected plagiarism, substantial overlap, ethical concerns, or other potential integrity problems.

Responsibilities of Editors

  • Evaluate manuscripts fairly on the basis of their relevance, scientific quality, methodological soundness, and ethical compliance;
  • Maintain editorial independence from commercial interests and inappropriate external influence;
  • Protect the confidentiality of manuscripts and the identities of authors and reviewers as required by the journal's review procedures;
  • Select reviewers with appropriate expertise and manage conflicts of interest;
  • Delegate the handling of manuscripts when an editor has a conflict of interest;
  • Communicate editorial decisions and revision requirements clearly;
  • Avoid decisions based on discriminatory considerations unrelated to scholarly merit; and
  • Address credible concerns about submitted or published work and take appropriate action to protect the scholarly record.

Responsibilities of the Publisher

  • Support editorial independence and the implementation of the journal's ethical policies;
  • Support the handling of publication misconduct concerns without interfering with impartial editorial assessment; and
  • Cooperate with editors in issuing corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions when warranted.

Research Involving Human Participants

Research involving human participants must comply with applicable ethical requirements. Manuscripts must identify the approving research ethics committee and provide the approval reference number where available. When a formal exemption applies, authors must explain its basis and identify the authority that granted it.

Authors must describe the applicable informed consent procedures and safeguards for participants' privacy and confidentiality. Additional protections must be explained where relevant for children, individuals with limited capacity to consent, or other vulnerable participants.

Handling Allegations of Misconduct

Concerns about plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, authorship disputes, duplicate publication, undisclosed conflicts of interest, or research ethics violations may be submitted through the Journal Contact page. Reports should identify the manuscript or article concerned and provide specific supporting information.

The editor will assess credible allegations carefully, seek clarification from the parties concerned, and provide an opportunity to respond. Where appropriate, the journal may refer matters requiring formal investigation to the relevant institution or authority.

Actions will depend on the nature and strength of the evidence and may include requests for clarification or revision, rejection, correction, an expression of concern, or retraction. A published article will not be removed or retracted solely on the basis of an unsupported allegation.

Corrections and Editorial Appeals

Significant errors affecting the interpretation or reliability of published work should be reported promptly. The journal will consider an appropriate notice to explain the issue and maintain transparency in the publication record.

Authors may appeal an editorial decision by contacting the editorial office and providing a reasoned explanation supported by relevant evidence. Appeals will be assessed impartially and, where a conflict of interest exists, referred to an editor who was not responsible for the original decision.
